Pekin girls second at Creek Classic
TIFFIN ? The Pekin girls? track team scored 112 points and finished second in an eight-team field at the Creek Classic Relays Thursday in Tiffin.
?Good night for the girls. Only our second outdoor meet and our younger girls are becoming more competitive,? said Pekin head coach Sarah Wright. ?The team is really supportive of each other, and this will help us as we go throughout the rest of the season.?

West Branch won the team title with 180 points and West Liberty was behind the Panthers with 92 points.
Maranda Baker was the Panthers? lone individual champion, throwing 35-feet, 5-inches in the shot put. She also came in second in the discus with a top throw of 97-feet, 1.5-inches.
Pekin?s 4x800 consisting of Samantha Wright, Whitney Horras, Maleaha Earnest and Celsey Conger also finished first in 10:40. The time was 14 seconds faster than the second-best quartet.
A host of Panthers finished third in other individual events: Mallory Reed ran the 100-meter hurdles in 17.14, Victoria Eckley was third in the 200-meter dash (28.99) and long jump (15? 5?), Celsey Conger ran the 1,500-meter race in 5:30, and Samantha Wright finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1:17.
The Panthers also took second place in the 4x100 as well as third in the shuttle hurdle, distance medley and 4x400 relays.
Pekin will be with the boys? team Monday at the Coe Co-Ed in Marion.
