PACKWOOD - The Pekin softball team improved to 15-1 with a pair of wins over Harmony Friday.
The Panthers took the first game 1-0, as Jamie Sterling scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kira Swanson led the team with a double, while Brenda Fritchen and Jessi Martin had a base hit apiece.
On the mound, Mycaela Crouse (13-1) threw a complete-game two-hitter, striking out five batters.
In the nightcap, the Panthers rolled to a 13-1 win in four innings. Kayla Northup (2-0) picked up the win, scattering three hits and fanning a batter.
At the plate, Swanson, Shelby Blakely, and Paige Atwood all doubled, while Northup, Jessica Deutsch, Dominique Tolle, and Fritchen all contributed a base hit.
"I'm pretty proud of how the girls picked up a close win, as well as the big win," said Pekin head coach Bryan Marlay. "We had an undefeated week last week, which doesn't happen very often. We did some good things, but there are a few things we need to work on, like swinging the bats more consistently."
Pekin hosts WACO Tuesday. At 5:00 p.m., the teams will conclude a game from earlier this season. Pekin is ahead 4-0 in the fourth inning. After the conclusion of the make-up game, the JV will follow, and the varsity will close out the evening.
