Pekin high school teams win district meet tune-up
BRIGHTON ? Pekin?s Celsey Conger followed up her Southeast Iowa Superconference Meet victory by winning the Lake Darling Cross Country Classic by more than a minute last Thursday in Brighton.
Conger led the top-ranked (Class 1A) Panther girls in a time of 15:13 as Pekin won with 25 points. Lone Tree was second with 65 points.

BRIGHTON ? Pekin?s Celsey Conger followed up her Southeast Iowa Superconference Meet victory by winning the Lake Darling Cross Country Classic by more than a minute last Thursday in Brighton.
Conger led the top-ranked (Class 1A) Panther girls in a time of 15:13 as Pekin won with 25 points. Lone Tree was second with 65 points.
The Panthers squeezed four additional runners into the top 10. Brenna Conger finished second at 16:19, Sam Wright was sixth at 16:57, Maleaha Earnest finished seventh with a clocking of 17:02, and Brandy Millikin was ninth in 17:10.
Alternates were McKenna Gambell (12th, 18:00) and Monica Cooley (14th, 18:08).
The Pekin boys? cross country also won the meet, tallying 45 points to edge Van Buren?s 54.
Pekin?s Cade Millikin came in third in 17:54, followed by Colton Dunning in sixth (18:05) and Timmy Murray in 10th (18:25).
Also running for the Pekin boys were Aaron King (12th, 18:46), Chase Earnest (14th, 18:49), Clayton Essary (16th, 18:55) and Stratton Bond (20th, 19:12).
Pekin will run at the district meet Thursday in Knoxville.
