Pekin hits, then hits some more vs. Sigourney

SIGOURNEY ? Just a few short weeks ago, Jeff Eeling?s biggest concern about his Pekin baseball team was their ability to hit.
What a difference a month makes.
The Panthers continued their offensive tear in a 17-7 win against Sigourney Thursday evening totaling 10 extra-base hits including five home runs as a team. Leading the charge was junior Zach Mosbey and his out of this world statline of 4-4, two home runs, seven RBI, two runs scored and, just for good measure, a stolen base. Mosbey went yard to dead center in his first at bat, hit a frozen rope off the top of the fence that went for a double in his second before belting a towering blast in his third at bat.
?Mosbey had quite a night,? Eeling simply said.
That was just the beginning however, as Pekin also received round-trippers from Cody Millikin, Trenton Northup and Brady Lamb in the rout. AJ Neff went the distance for the Panthers on the mound totaling 10 strikeouts while allowing just one earned run on three hits in seven innings of work.
?We just need to keep swinging the bats and pitching like we have been as well,? said Eeling. ?The four errors and six unearned runs is too many, but the defense has normally been pretty solid. If we keep hitting like we have been, we?ll be alright.?
Pekin will host its home tournament on Saturday with an opening round game vs. Van Buren at 10 a.m.
