Pekin outlasts Sigourney in volleyball battle

PACKWOOD — Pekin and Sigourney waged a nonconference volleyball battle Tuesday that ended in a 3-2 win for the home crowd.
Pekin outlasted the Savages 29-27, 19-25, 25-18, 20-25, 15-12.
The Panthers served 18 aces on the night with Kyli Fitzsimmons and Quinn Baker connecting on four each.
Emma Phillips landed five ace serves, spiked six kills and dug up four balls.
Taylor Gambell put up 18 assists to Pekin teammates with Claire Roth producing nine kills, four digs and two aces. Fitzsimmons recorded four kills. Baker contributed six assists. Defensive specialists Sadie Sieren and Delainie Batterson combined for 20 digs.
Pekin hosts Winfield-Mount Union Thursday to open play for both teams in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division.
