WAPELLO — It was a bumpy first month of the season for the Pekin baseball team, but on Tuesday night in Wapello, things were flowing the right way.

The Panthers jumped on the Indians early and never let them recover in an 11-3 Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division win.
Pekin kept the line moving early, scoring six runs over the first three innings of the game.
“Early runs are always good in a baseball game,” said Pekin head coach Curtis Reighard. “Our trouble recently is we can’t finish the last three or four innings. Tonight, we obviously did.”

Chase Stansberry got the start and struck out eight batters over the first five innings, giving up just three earned runs in the process. Colton Comstock came in to pitch two innings in relief.
“I felt sharp,” said Stansberry. “I was confident in my defense, and how they would field the ball.”
The Indians had the score down to 6-3 with runners on in the bottom of the fourth, but Stansberry got through the inning and Wapello never got any closer.

“I think we were in control of the way the whole way,” Reighard said. “I think we played well enough to control all seven innings.”
Jackson Horras had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs Levi Coleman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Stansberry knocked in two runs. Blake Juhl, Hudson VanEnglenhoven and Koy Pollock each had two hits and an RBI.
