PACKWOOD ? Pekin was out-hit 7-5 in Friday?s softball game against Lone Tree, but the host team made all five of its hits count en route to an 11-4 win in Packwood.
?We had some big hits and we?re showing better discipline,? said Pekin coach Bryan Marlay. ?We had a lot of people on base, got out to an early lead and took our chances on the bases.?
The Panthers led 4-0 after two innings, and Marlay said ?a bomb? of a three-run home run by senior Maranda Baker put the game on ice in the third inning.
Baker was 2-for-4 with four RBI. Both Cheyann Lankford and Brittany Gillam totaled three runs and three steals from the top of the lineup, and Peyton Atwood knocked in two runs.
Weather permitting, Pekin (2-1, 2-1 SEISC North) visits IMS on Thursday.
