Pekin sweeps games

Pekin won two boys basketball games last week, one nonconference and one Super Conference North game while Winfield-Mt. Union lost a South game and Columbus lost in the North.
Wolves clipped
WINFIELD - The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves fell to South Division foe Holy Trinity Saturday, 49-44. The game was close the whole way with 8-6 and 26-20 WMU leads after the first two quarters but a 19-10 third quarter by the visitors gave the Crusaders control at 39-36 starting the final quarter.
Konnor Wade led the Wolves with 13 points and Cam Buffington had 12. Abram Edwards contributed four blocked shots, seven points and seven rebounds. Jacob Kongable scored three points and handed out four assists. Buffington and Edwards also produced four assists each.
Wildcats lose to Bulldogs
MEDIAPOLIS - Mediapolis opened with a 19-0 run and Columbus never threatened in a 72-33 loss Friday.
Leading scorer in the game was Mason Hodges with 14 points. In his first varsity start for Columbus, Timothy Hills scored nine points going 3-for-3 from the field with two free throws.
Panthers cruise
Pekin cruised in both games leading 20-5 and 26-6 after the first quarter which led to a 71-20 win over Lone Tree Friday and a 73-36 win at Sigourney Saturday.
Brock Long had 19 points and five steals with Pekin teammate Chandler Stull scoring 18 points on four 3-pointers against Lone Tree. Cael Lyle added 12 points and eight rebounds while Brady Millikin doled out eight assists and scored 12 points.
Millikin again had eight assists the next night when Brayden Sobaski poured in 19 points at Sigourney with eight rebounds and five assists for Pekin. Lyle 17 had points and five rebounds. Stull tallied 11 points.
