Pekin track earns 12 spots at state
Panther girls’ team sending 8 events, boys sending 4

The Pekin boys and girls track teams competed in the 1A Qualifying track meet last Thursday, May 12 held at Sigourney.
The Panther girls will be competing in eight events at the state meet, while the boys qualified in four. Competing at state for Pekin will be Kerrigan Pope in both the discus and shot put; Lauren Steigleder in the 3000-meter run; Lauren Derscheid in the 1500-meter run; Sarah Eubanks in the 400-meter dash; the 4x800 relay team of Audrey Fariss, Derscheid, Makenzie Dahlstrom, and Sarah Eubanks; the 4x400 relay team of Claire Roth, Eubanks, Audrey Fariss, and Dahlstrom; the distance medley team of Claire Roth, Lilly Reneker, Dahlstrom, and Derscheid; Jaedon Wolver in both the high jump and 400-meter hurdles; Luke Long in the high jump; the distance medley team of Kevin Rohr, Chase Stansberry, Zack Wise, and Wolver; and the 4x400 relay team of Logan Baker, Luke Long, Wise, and Wolver.
Pekin’s girls’ team won the district meet with 144.5 points. Wapello was second with 101 and English Valleys finished third with 81. Steigleder won the 3000-meter run, while Eubanks finished first in the 400-meter dash. Derscheid and Steigleder took the top two spots in the 1500-meter run. Pekin had relay wins in the 4x400, 4x800, and the distance medley.
Pope finished second in both the discus and shot put.
The boys’ team finished sixth with 54 points. Winning was New London with 150 points. Long and Wolver finished third and fourth in the high jump, while Wolver had a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. The 4x400 relay team had a second-place finish and the distance medley team placed third.
The state meet will be held this Thursday, May 19 through Saturday, May 21.
