KEOSAUQUA — The Pekin and Van Buren County baseball teams went toe-to-toe on the baseball and softball diamonds Tuesday. The Pekin baseball team grinded out a 3-2 victory in a rain-shortened five-inning game. The Van Buren softball team ran away late in a 7-1 victory.
After two scoreless innings, the Pekin baseball team scored three runs in the top of the third inning. Van Buren County scored two in the bottom of the fourth, but that was all the scoring that would go down officially. Pekin did score in the top of the sixth, but the run was taken off the scoreboard due to the rainout.
Chase Stansberry led Pekinn’s offense, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. He also picked up the win on the mound, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks, while striking out 12 batters.
Van Buren County led 3-0 after three innings in the softball game. Pekin cut the lead two 3-1 with a run in the fourth, but Van Buren tacked on four in the seventh
Annabell Cormier went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Van Buren softball team. Chelsey Huff was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Tessa Sayer went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Huff threw a complete game for the Warrior girls. She gave up just one earned run on four hits and one walk, while striking out 12.
