Pekin volleyball topples Columbus

PACKWOOD ? The Pekin volleyball team kept its undefeated conference mark intact with a three-set victory over Columbus Thursday.

Leslie Stone sent up 21 assists, Maranda Baker finished with seven kills and the Panthers topped Columbus by scores of 25-15. 25-11, 25-22.

?We came aggressive the first two sets but got a little comfortable the third set,? said Pekin head coach Ashley Bartels.

After running away to lopsided wins in the first two sets, Columbus put up a fight in the third. The final set stayed close, and a few Pekin errors didn?t help, but the Panthers closed the game out with a 25-22 win.

Cheyann Lankford had six kills and a block, Madelyn Baker tallied six kills and seven digs, and Tiana Slaney finished the game with five kills and a pair of aces.

The Panthers (7-8, 4-0 SEISC north) will be at a tournament in Keota Saturday before the conference kicks off next Thursday.
