Two Union coverage area teams traded shutouts on Thursday night. The Pekin baseball team held home field in a 15-0 win over Winfield-Mt. Union, but W-MU came out on top at the softball game in Winfield as the now 13th-ranked Wolves won 2-0.
The Pekin baseball team put on an offensive display, scoring one run in the first inning, nine in the third and five in the fourth to end the game in four frames. Brady Millikin had a huge game, going 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three stolen bases. Kennan Winn was 2-for-four with a double and two RBIs.
Chase Stansberry, Mason Juhl, Brady Latcham, Cael Baker and Colton Comstock each recorded one RBI in the Panthers' win. Chandler Stull stole three bases.
Millikin earned the win on the mound for Pekin. He gave up just one hit and one walk over his four shutout innings of work, and struck out five W-MU batters.
The softball game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth innings. Emma Haines came up clutch with a two-RBI single, which put the Wolves ahead for good.
Madie Anderson threw yet another shutout for the W-MU girls, giving up just one hit, two walks and one hit batter over seven innings. She struck out 15 Panthers.
Jobey Malone had two of W-MU's five hits in the win. She went 2-for-3 with a double.
