Pekin wins Columbus Invitational
Panther girls win team race; VBC and Highland 2nd and 3rd

COLUMBUS — The Union area’s girls wrestlers were all over the mats on Monday night during the championship rounds at the 2025 Columbus girls invitational.
Pekin, Van Buren County and Highland all finished in the Top-3, with the Panthers taking first place, scoring 174 points.
Pekin finished the day with 174 points to win the night. VBC took second, with 130, and Highland scored 106, for third.
Pekin had five champions on the day to help rush up the team standings. Lexa Nelson was a champion at 110-pounds. Bree Earnest won at 115. Lila Miller took first at 130. Ivory Small won at 135, and Hailey Pedrick took first at 145.
Van Buren County finished the night with three champions. Armony Adams cruised to a championship at 100 pounds. Jacqueline Singer took first at 105, and Rylee Caviness was the winner at 125.
Highland had three champions as well. At 120 pounds, Adley Sweeting took home the bracket. Maiya Singbeil won at 140, and Chloe Sexton took first at 235.
The only other area champion went to Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union’s Jada Moats, who took home the 190-pound title.
VBC was coming off a third-place finish in Burlington on Saturday. At that invite, Cardinal finished sixth, Mt. Pleasant was eighth, and Washington finished 12th.
Mid-Prairie and Mt. Pleasant were at the West Liberty Invitational on Tuesday night. The Golden Hawks and Panthers were eighth and 11th respectively.
