Pekin’s Glosser wins grade race

FAIRFIELD - Pekin hosted some unique cross-country races Saturday at Waterworks Park. The races were by grade instead of varsity or junior varsity.
Pekin's Colten Glosser won the 12th grade boys race with a time of 17 minutes, 16 seconds and teammate Tanner Conger was third in 19:03.
Highland's Alli Brand was third in 12th girls at 24:59. Pekin's Tara Kielkopf was seventh at 27:30.
Highland's Madison Thomann was second in the 11th girls race with a time of 22:20 and Fiona Mahler was fifth at 24:29. Kaitlyn Glosser of Pekin was seventh at 25:49.
Brady Millikin of Pekin was second in the 11th boys at 17:43 and Simeon Buie was 10th. Jacob Roling of Highland was 13th.
In the 10th girls, Pekin's Lauren Dersheid (20:52) and Lily Fariss (21:39) took first and second.
Pekin's Zack Wise was second in the 10th boys race at 18:30. Highland's Noah Oriano was 14th.
In ninth grade girls, Pekin's Sabrina Reneker was third at 23:36 and Lilly Reneker fifth at 24:31. Highland's Katelyn Waters was eighth.
Columbus runs at Wartburg
The Columbus crosscountry team had good performances at the Wartburg College high school meet.
The Wildcat boys finished 21st in the varsity race composed of many Class 3A and 4A teams. Isaac Acosta (18:09) and Freddy Vergara (19:18) had personal-best times. Alex Rivas (20:08) was Columbus' third runner, followed by Mason Hills-Carrier (20:11), Garrett Palmer (20:12), Gary Molina (20:17), and Daniel Martinez 20:19.
Three girls ran in the junior varsity race. They were led by Van Iang, who finished 31st in 25:39. Averi Sipes ran 26:53 and Esther Lian 27:54.
'The kids ran very fast times, including a couple of PRs (personal records),” Columbus coach Steve Riley said. 'This was a good meet for us.”
