Phillips wins state title!
New London senior is a state champ; Tigers, Highland and Mid-Prairie all Top-5

MARSHALLTOWN — In her final high school golf meet ever, New London’s Taylor Phillips is a state champion.
The Tiger senior shot a 74 on Day 1 and a 76 on Day 2 to win the meet with a stroke total of 149, narrowly edging out second place Jaylee Shaffer of Mount Ayr by two strokes.
Phillips had a three-stroke lead coming into Friday’s second day, after shooting her weekend low 73 on Thursday.
The Tigers and Huskies both came in with high expectations as a team, and both teams finished in the Top-4. Highland shot a 741 to finish third, missing out on second by one stroke. BCLUW jumped ahead of Highland on Day 2.
The Huskies were led by Adisyn Prottsman, who shot a 175, finishing at 90 on Day 1, and 85 on Day 2. She finished 12th place overall.
Danika Kraus finished just outside of the Top-15, shooting 178, for 16th.
Kelsi Cerny was the next Highland player down the list. She shot 191. Haley Sands finished out at 197. Emersyn Shultz shot 201, and Adeline Krotz finished at 209.
New London jumped from sixth to fourth on Day 2. The Tigers improved by 10 strokes, shooting 380 on Day 1, and 370 on Day 2.
After Phillips, New London’s next top golfer was Sophie Malott, who finished 21st, with a stroke total of 184.
Emma Busby shot 199 for the Tigers. Stevey Wintermeyer finished at 227. Katelyn Allen shot 232, and Sydney Kracht finished at 236.
Mid-Prairie secured fifth in the Class 2A meet. The Golden Hawks ended the meet 16 strokes out of fourth, and 20 ahead of sixth after shooting 365 on the first day and 367 on the second.
Gabi Robertson slipped into the Top-15 with a 14th place finish to lead Mid-Prairie. She shot 84 on Day 1 and 85 on Day 2.
Olivia Swartzentruber shot 186, for 35th place overall. She was the second Golden Hak on the board. Morgyn Bender was three places and two strokes back, at 188.
Madi Davidson shot 191 for Mid-Prairie. Addison English finished at 198, and Elliot Debler shot 202.
Easton Valley was the Class 1A state golf champion, shooting 711 to win the meet by 29 strokes. Sumner-Fredericksburg won the Class 2A championship by shooting 674, to win by five strokes.
