WACO — The WACO volleyball team hosted a home triangular on Tuesday, marking the Warriors’ return to the court under new management.
WACO had two coaches resign last week, leaving a vacancy, which was filled by longtime Winfield-Mt. Union coach David Pieart.
Pieart, who coached W-MU until the end of last season, has agreed to step in and take over at WACO until the end of the year. He is being assisted by former Warrior volleyball standout Laney Graber, who graduated in 2020.
“We are thankful to our two previous coaches for what they have done to get this season going and developing our girls,” said WACO Athletic Director Chad Edeker. “We are also thankful to Coach Pieart and Coach Graber for stepping in to let our girls continue the season.”
WACO hosted Keota, Lone Tree and Louisa-Muscatine on Tuesday. The Warriors picked up wins over both Lone Tree and L&M.
WACO beat Lone Tree in straight sets, winning 21-10, 21-13. The Warriors nipped Louisa-Muscatine 15-21, 22-20, 15-11.
Keota went 2-1 in the quad as well. The Eagles beat the Warriors 28-26, 21-19, and picked up a sweep of Lone Tree, winning 21-12, 21-10. The Eagles, however, couldn’t knock off Louisa-Muscatine in the opener, falling 14-21, 21-16, 15-8.
The Wolves, meanwhile, won a four-set matchup with Pekin on Monday, taking it 25-14, 25-12, 18-15, 25-10. The Wolves (11-7, 3-1) are one of three SEISC North teams with just one conference loss, alongside Columbus (7-14, 4-1) and Hillcrest Academy (14-7, 3-1). Wapello still leads the SEISC North with a 17-7 overall and 4-0 conference record.
There are still four nights left in the SEISC regular season, but WACO and W-MU are not set to play. The two teams may, however, meet in the postseason.
