Pioneers? DeAngelis qualifies for district golf

NEW LONDON ? Maharishi School?s Mickey DeAngelis finished fourth overall in the Class 1A boys? golf sectional Friday at New London to advance to the next round.

Behind DeAngelis? strong day, the Pioneers finished fourth in the team standings with a 371. Winfield-Mount Union won the championship with a 334 and New London ended up second at 336. Third-place Holy Trinity also advanced to the district tournament with a 365-point total.

DeAngelis and the three qualifying teams will be back in action Thursday on the Pleasant Valley course in Iowa City.

Warrior girls take third

NEW LONDON ? Van Buren tied with Winfield-Mount Union for third place at Monday?s Class 1A regional girls? golf tournament in New London.

Meredith Miller shot a 106 and Payten Hughes carded a 107 to lead the Warrior girls, who finished at 480. Bethany Millard (131) and Taylor Murgia (136) also scored for Van Buren.

New London won the regional title with a final tally of 382.
