Pioneers knocked out in Substate final
Maharishi girls tennis team done in by Davenport Assumption

DAVENPORT — A magical girls tennis season for Maharishi School came to an end on Tuesday, as the Pioneers fell at Davenport Assumption in the regional championship round.
Assumption beat Maharishi 5-0, giving the Pioneers their first loss of the season.
“Hats off to Assumption,” said Maharishi head coach Lawrence Eyre. “They are deserving winners.”
Ishita Mukadam lost the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-3. Saraswati Quevedo-Valls was swept 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 match.
Daira Valls Blazquez dropped the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-1. Sonya Kandyba lost the No. 5 match, 6-0, 6-1, and Jolie Gaquer fell in the No. 6 match by the same score, dropping the match 6-0, 6-1.
“We’re proud of our girls’ 9-1 record this season,” said Eyre. “We bring four of this year’s Top-6 back in 2024.”
The Pioneers aren’t totally done with girls’ tennis yet. Mukadam will play in the state singles tournament in Waterloo on May 26 and 27.
