FAIRFIELD - It may not feel like spring outside, but one yearly tradition is in full force, as the Maharishi girls’ tennis team is already off to its winning ways.
The Pioneers hosted Notre Dame on Tuesday night, and the Nikes had no answer in singles or doubles. Maharishi rolled through their first match of the year, beating Notre Dame 9-0.
Coach Lawrence Eyre’s squad was dominant early and often. The Pioneers swept the Top-3 singles matches, as No. 1 Ishita Mukadam, No. 2 Poojita Mukadam and No. 3 Ria Altynska-Ross all swept their matches 8-0.
Daira Valls won the No. 4 singles match 4-0. Joyce Wong took the no. 5 singles match, 8-5, and Aparajita Kalra finished the sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 6.
The doubles weren’t much different. Mukadam and Mukadam continued to not let up a point, winning the No. 1 match 8-0.
The duo won 8-5. Altynska-Ross and Kalra won the No. 2 match 8-2. Valls and Wang had a good showing at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-5.
Maharishi is now 1-0 on the year. The Pioneers will host Centerville, back at Punj Tennis Center, on April 8.
