Devon Sanson's double-double Friday helped New London High School head coach Bryant Porter picked up his 100th career boys basketball victory.
Tigers blast Warriors
NEW LONDON - The Tigers were dominant in a 86-42 in Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division win over Van Buren County. New London led the Warriors 28-11 after one quarter, 40-20 at halftime and 66-31 heading into the fourth quarter.
Swanson had a huge night for New London, putting up 28 points and bringing down 19 rebounds. Blaise Porter had 23 points and six assists and Kade Benjamin added 19 points.
Jackson Manning led the Van Buren County with 25 points. Lane Davis had four points and eight rebounds. Owen Loeffler scored three points.
New London moved to 3-0 with the win. Van Buren County is now 0-5.
Cardinal cruises
WAYLAND - It was all Comets over WACO in a South Division game. Cardinal jumped out to an early double-digit lead and never looked back en route to a 75-38 victory.
The Comets led 26-12 after the first quarter and 48-27 at halftime. Any hope of a WACO comeback was erased with a 16-2 Comet run in the third period.
Elias Elammari led the Comets with 20 points and teammate Blaine Bryant scored 19. Dawson Lewis had 16.
WACO was paced by a 12-point night from Isaac Oswald. Simeon Reichenbach added nine points.
Cardinal moved to 2-2 with the victory. WACO fell to 1-4.
Columbus can't climb past Hillcrest
COLUMBUS JUNCTION - Despite a double-double from Mason Hodges, Columbus lost to Hillcrest Academy 44-27 in the North Division game. It was 15-4 for the visitors after a quarter but the Wildcats closed for a 23-17 halftime score.
John Hughes went for 13 points and Grant Bender added eight with Eli Ours hitting seven for the Ravens. Hughes added seven rebounds.
Mason Hodges continued his consistent play with 11 points and 10 rebounds. In his first varsity action, Timothy Hills added five points.
'We turned it over far too easily to be competitive,” Columbus coach Miguel Villagrana said of the Wildcats' 32 giveaways. 'We played some young guys who did well in their first varsity experience. We'll keep working.”
Columbus is 0-5. Hillcrest is 2-2.
Keota clobbers Iowa Valley
MARENGO - It wasn't even close in this South Iowa Cedar League game as Keota's first two quarters were both 14-3 scores for 28-6 halftime lead. The Eagles gave Iowa Valley its first loss 56-32 and stayed unbeaten.
Carson Sprouse had 22 in the win while Luke Hammen scored 10 and Wyatt Sieren eight. Sieren collected 12 rebounds and three steals. Brady Duwa had nine boards, four assists, three blocks and two steals.
Pekin wins 2
The Panthers won two road games over the weekend. Pekin traveled east to Letts Friday for a North Division game at Louisa-Muscatine, then went west Saturday to Eddyville for a nonconference match with EBF.
Against the division rival Falcons, Pekin pulled away from a 9-7 first quarter to lead 27-16 at halftime and 43-27 after three quarters on the way to the 58-40 victory.
The Panthers pounced on the Rockets for a 17-11 first-quarter, led 36-25 at halftime, but lost the third frame 16-14, before outscoring the home team by seven in the final frame for a 67-51 win.
Pekin is 4-1 while Louisa-Muscatine is 2-2 and EBF is 1-3. Pekin hosts Hillcrest Tuesday and goes to Hillcrest Friday.
