The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association released the pairings for the 2025 district and regional tournaments this week, so now every area team knows their path to the state tournament.
On the girls’ side, five area teams were placed into Class 1A Region 3, including Fairfield and Mid-Prairie, which will be in action on Monday’s opening round.
Fairfield (3-9-1) will host Central Lee (3-10-1) for the chance to take on top-seeded Assumption (8-2-1) two days later.
On the other side of the bracket, Mid-Prairie (4-8-3) hosts Wapello (0-12) for the shot to head to Mt. Pleasant (7-5-1) in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
Washington (7-7) already knows its quarterfinal opponent. The Demons will host West Liberty (4-6-4). Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union (5-6) will open up at Mediapolis (9-5-1).
On the boys’ side, Mt. Pleasant earned a No. 2 seed and a bye into the semifinals of the Class 2A Substate 6 tournament. Fairfield will host Centerville in the first round, with the winner heading to Mt. Pleasant.
On the other side of that bracket, Washington will head to Osceola to play Clarke for the chance to play sixth-ranked and top-seeded Williamsburg in the other semifinal.
In Class 1A, area teams were spread out to Substate 5 and Substate 6.
In Substate 5, both WACO and Sigourney-Keota will have road games to kick things off. WACO is the No. 5 seed, playing at No. 4 seeded Danville, while SK is the No. 6, playing at No. 3 seed Central Lee. A win for WACO would earn a shot at top-seeded West Liberty, and SK is playing for the shot to play at Mediapolis.
In Substate 6, Hillcrest Academy gets the No. 3 seed, and a date with crosstown rival Mid-Prairie, the No. 6 seed. The winner of that will head to Chariton for the semifinals.
Highland gets the No. 4 seed in Substate 6. The Huskies host Grand View Christian, with the winner playing top-seeded Van Meter.
All brackets for all classes can be found on the IGHSAU and IAHSAA websites.
