Small school boys soccer kicked off the postseason on Monday night.
Just three Union area schools picked up victories in the opening round, while three others had their seasons ended.
Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union 5, Wapello 1
The Wildcats move on with the victory over Wapello on Monday.
Columbus/WMU went on to score two in the first half and three in the second to win big.
Wapello got a goal itself in the first, but the Wildcats finished strong.
Columbus/WMU improves to 8-8 and will play Mediapolis (11-2) in the second round.
Danville/New London 1, WACO 0
Danville/New London’s lone first half goal was enough to get past WACO on Monday.
The Bears’ Colin Pealer off a pass from Jacob Miller ended up being the game winner in the two’s opening round substate game.
The Bears improve to 5-4 and will play West Liberty (13-2) next time.
WACO ends its season at 4-9.
Sigourney-Keota 5, Centerville 0
Sigourney-Keota moves onto round two in the Class 1A substate bracket with a shutout victory over Centerville.
The Cobras improve to 8-5 with the victory and will match up with West Branch in the second round.
Central Lee 2, Hillcrest Academy 1
Hillcrest Academy came up just short to Central Lee in the Class 1A substate first round on Monday.
The Ravens scored just one goal in the opening half, while the Hawks finished with two.
Phoenix Anderson scored the one goal for the Ravens off an assist from Jesse Blossom.
In goal, Kyle Neuschwander made three saves.
Hillcrest Academy finishes the year at 4-7.
Grinnell 3, Mid-Prairie 1
Mid-Prairie came up two goals short to Grinnell in their Class 2A substate first round matchup.
Grinnell slipped in three goals in the first half and Mid-Prairie could never make the comeback.
The Golden Hawks were able to get one of their own, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Owen Trimpe scored Mid-Prairie’s lone goal.
Joe Hall had 11 saves in goal.
The Golden Hawks end their season at 9-7.
Prince of Peace 5, Highland 2
Highland did all they could against Prince of Peace on Monday night, but the Irish were just too much in the Class 1A substate bout.
Prince of Peace scored three goals in the first half and added two more in the second.
The Huskies put two in the back of the net in the second, but that’s all they could get.
Carlos Valenzuela and Jared Diaz each score one of the Huskies two goals.
Logan McFarland tallied one assist.
Ayden Havel finished with 24 saves in the games.
The Huskies end their season with a 1-12 record.
