The rain surprisingly stayed away from most area baseball fields on Tuesday night. A full night of conference action saw Van Buren County take down rival Cardinal, and a handful of other Union area squads scoop up wins.
Van Buren County 4, Cardinal 2
Van Buren County broke a 1-1 tie with a three run sixth to spike a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division home win over rival Cardinal.
The Warriors were outhit 7-6 in the game, but the Comets couldn’t push the runs across they needed. Despite the loss, Cardinal’s Landon Becker went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Mid-Prairie 6, Wilton 1
Alex Bean struck out eight batters as the Golden Hawks shut down Wilton in a River Valley home game. Bean earned the win, giving up just one earned run over five innings.
Dylan Henry drove in a pair of runs for the Golden Hawks. Brock Harland and Brady Weber each had one RBI, and both Collin Miller and Tyler Helmuth collected two hits.
Keota 5, Iowa Valley 2
The Eagles scored the first five runs of the ballgame in a South Iowa Cedar League road game. Cole Kindred had a big night, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Evan Vittetoe knocked in two runs for Keota. Chase Sieren and Caleb Watershouse each had one RBI, and Aidan Anderson threw four shutout innings to earn the win.
New London 16, Danville 1(4)
The Tigers wasted no time jumping on rival Danville in a game at New London. The Tigers scored the first 12 runs of the game en route to their 17th-straight win in the series.
Tucker Gibbar went 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead New London. Carter Allen had a double and two RBIs. Kooper Schulte finished with a double, an RBI and four runs scored.
Allen threw all four innings in the game, giving up just one earned run to earn the win.
Mediapolis 3, Highland 0
The Huskies’ offense went cold in a SEISC North Division game at Mediapolis. Highland collected just four hits in the loss, with Connor Grinstead’s double being the only extra-base knock.
Chase Schultz took the loss on the mound after giving up three earned runs over five frames. He struck out eight Bulldog batters.
Hillcrest Academy 8, Louisa-Muscatine 3
Luke Schrock went 4-for-5 at the plate and threw a complete game on the mound as the Ravens picked up their first win of the season in SEISC North play.
Seth Ours, Jace Rempel and Josiah Beachy each had three RBIs in the road win. Grant Bender was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Wapello 6, WMU-Columbus 4
The Winfield-Mount Union-Columbus squad held a short-lived 3-1 lead but couldn’t hold it in an SEISC North loss.
It was the closest the Wolves have come to beaten Wapello since another two-run loss in 2017. The Indians have taken 11-straight in the series.
