Prep soccer roundup: Mid-Prairie victorious, Columbus comes up short

GIRLS
Mid-Prairie 8, Wapello 1 (Friday)
The Golden Hawk dominated every facet of the game against the Arrows.
Mid-Prairie scored a whopping six goals in the first half and added two more in the second for the win.
The Golden Hawks took 43 total shots with 36 on target.
Esther Hughes finished with four goals for the Golden Hawks. Kaitlin Martin had two goals and three assists. Zoey Curtiss and Julia Boller each totaled a goal and an assist. Evelyn Gerber ended with one assist.
In goal, Ainsley Lueck made five saves.
The girls improve to 7-4 with the win. In their next match on Tuesday, they will play West Liberty (4-7).
BOYS
Central Lee 2, Columbus 1 (Thursday)
Columbus fell just short of Central Lee in the two’s contest.
Central Lee lead 1-0 at the half. The Wildcats were able to get one goal back in the second, but it wasn’t enough as the Hawks matched them with one of their own.
Columbus drops to 7-4 with the loss. It their next game, the Wildcats will square off with Washington (10-2) on Thursday.
Chariton 7, Sigourney-Keota 0 (Thursday)
The Cobras couldn’t get anything going on either end of the ball against the Chargers.
Chariton scored three goals in the first half and added four more in the second to pick up a win over Sigourney-Keota.
The Cobras fall to 1-9 with the loss.
Burlington Notre Dame 10, Danville/New London 0 (Friday)
The Bears struggled to limit the Nikes in the two’s matchup last week.
Notre Dame scored nine goals in the first half alone and one in the second to down the Danville/New London.
The Bears couldn’t find an answer on either end of the ball as the Nikes made just one save on the day, while taking a total of 27 shots, 17 of which were on goal.
Danville/New London, now 1-3, will face off with Wapello (2-11) on Tuesday.
Mid-Prairie’s Esther Hughes (11) and Sophia Baker play (3) helped the Golden Hawks down Wapello 8-1 on Friday. Hughes had four goals in the contest. (File/The Union)
