Prep softball roundup: Columbus clamps New London, Mid-Prairie downs Durant

A handful of softball games took place on Wednesday night in Southeast Iowa. Columbus continued to pile on the runs, Mid-Prairie snapped a long losing streak and Cardinal picked up a rare loss.
Columbus 14, New London 1 (3)
The Wildcat offense stayed hot in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover against New London. Columbus scored 14 runs in three innings to end the game early.
Jocelyn Fulton was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for Columbus. Libby White went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Audrey Hoback knocked in two runs, and Lily Coil went 3-for-3 with a triple.
Coil was strong in the circle. She threw all three innings and gave up one earned run on two hits and four walks, while striking out five.
Mid-Prairie 4, Durant 1
The Golden Hawks rallied late to upend Durant in River Valley road game. Mid-Prarie snapped Durant’s 11-game winning streak in the series.
Durant led 1-0 after one inning and the two teams traded goose eggs for the majority of the game. Mid-Prairie scored two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to steal the win.
Davis County 10, Cardinal 0 (5)
The Comets ran into a buzz saw with a home loss against future South Central Conference foe Davis County.
The Mustangs put up two runs each in the first and second, added four in the fourth and tacked on two more in the fifth.
Cardinal had just three hits in the loss. Kinsey Hissem, Madison Dively and Maddy Lawson each had a single.
Ava Ferrell took the loss in the circle. She gave up 10 runs (three earned) on seven hits and six walks, while striking out two batters.
Tri-County 10, Keota 0 (5)
In Game 1 of a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader, the Eagles were held to just two hits. Tri-County scored one run in the second, three in the third and sixth in the fifth.

Keota was two-hit once again in Game 2. Tri-County scored three runs each in the second and third innings and added four in the fourth.
