Union area softball teams were in action on Tuesday night. A slew of teams saw success, while others came up short.
Mid-Prairie 2, No. 6 (2A) Regina Catholic 1
Huge win for the Golden Hawks. Regina took a 1-0 lead in the second off a solo home run, but the Golden Hawks answered back with a triple by Madeline Schrader and a single by Brittany Kinsinger to tie it.
With the tying run on third, Mid-Prairie’s Sydney Knebel got the strikeout to end it.
Knebel led the Golden Hawks with a pair of hits and in the circle. Schrader and Kinsinger both one RBI each.
Columbus 13, Wapello 6
Wapello held a 3-2 lead after one inning of play. Columbus answered back, scoring 10 over the next three innings. The Arrows scored three between the fifth and sixth, but the Wildcats were too much.
Van Buren County 3, Central Lee 1
After a pair of scoreless innings, both the Warriors and Hawks scored in the third. Van Buren won the scoring battle 3-1, which would be the winning total in the end.
Ivy Davison led the Warriors with two hits and an RBI in the win. Annabelle Cormier, Callie Kracht, Alli Campbell and Kylee Roen each carded a hit as well. Cormier finished with an RBI too.
Campbell took the victory in the circle.
Holy Trinity Catholic 13, New London 2
The Tigers held a 2-1 lead after two innings of play, but the Crusaders scored 12 in the next three innings to pick up the win.
Mediapolis 11, Hillcrest Academy 1
Mediapolis led 9-0 before Hillcrest scored its one run in the fifth inning. The Ravens could never find a way to get back in it as the Bullets scored two in their half of the fifth.
West Burlington 10, Cardinal 3
Cardinal took a 2-0 after the first inning in the matchup, but after four scoreless innings the Falcons poured in 10 runs in the sixth to take control. The Comets put one on the board in the seventh, but it didn’t make a difference.
