Prep volleyball roundup: Winfield sees success, WACO keeps winning

Winfield-Mt. Union 3, Highland 0
WMU downed Highland in three straight sets Thursday night.
Although the Huskies fell in the match, they got better in each set.
The Wolves were winners 25-6, 25-10 and 25-21.
Melina Oepping led WMU with 11 kills and Bradie Buffington followed with nine.
Keely Malone had a team high 30 assists, while Keetyn Townsley led in digs with 15.
Wolves win three at Wilton Tournament
Winfield-Mt. Union had a nice showing at the Wilton Tournament on Saturday.
After an opening two set loss to host Wilton (21-17, 21-18), the Wolves bounced back with three straight victories.
WMU downed Mediapolis 2-1 in their second match of the day, splitting the first two sets 21-18 and 18-21 before winning the third 15-10.
The Wolves then downed Burlington in two sets 21-15 and 21-21. They wrapped up the tournament with a sweep of Mt. Pleasant, 21-14 and 21-16.
WACO 3, Louisa-Muscatine 0
WACO picked up its ninth win of the season with the victory over the Falcons.
The Warriors held the Falcons to under 10 points in two of the three sets, winning 25-8, 25-13 and 25-9.
Ellah Kissell led the Warriors with 16 kills in the win. Emma Wagler finished with eight.
Grace Coble led the team with 26 assists. Kissell and Meredith Roth each finished with 10 digs.
No. 4 (Class 3A) West Liberty 3, No. 15 (Class 3A) Mid-Prairie 1
Mid-Prairie nearly took down the fourth ranked Comets on Thursday.
The Golden Hawks lost the first 25-22, won the second 25-23, but the dropped the next two 25-17 and 25-16.
Landry Pacha led the Golden Hawks with 12 kills in the loss. Ella Groenewold followed with eight.
Pacha also led Mid-Prairie with 19 assists and Jovi Evans finished with 18.
Dakota Mitchell led in digs with 29. Pacha and Evans each had 15.
Wapello 3, Hillcrest Academy 0
Hillcrest Academy came up short against Wapello in the twos Thursday nights contest.
The Arrows took the victory over the Ravens 25-14, 25-10 and 25-9.
Claire Withrow and Malia Yoder led the Ravens with four kills. Withrow also led the team with three assists. Yoder finished with a team high 10 digs.
Columbus goes 0-2 at Williamsburg Tournament
The Wildcats to a trip up to Williamsburg over the weekend.
It was a tough outing for Columbus as it took two losses on the day.
The Wildcats fell to Central Lee 21-8 and 21-15 in their field match of the day.
They then matched up with host Williamsburg. That game’s result hasen’t been released.
In their final game of the tournament, the Wildcats got West Burlington.
The Falcons took the two set win 21-7 and 21-6.
Lone Tree 3, Pekin 2
Pekin fell just short against Lone Tree in a match that took five set to determine a winner.
The Panthers lost the match, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 16-25 and 11-15
