Prep volleyball roundup: WMU, WACO get sweeps

A handful of area teams were in action on Tuesday night.
Winfield-Mt. Union, WACO and Pekin all picked up wins, while Van Buren and Highland each suffered a loss. Columbus and Hillcrest Academy also competed, but lost to WMU and WACO.
Winfield-Mt. Union 3, Columbus 0
Winfield-Mt. Union downed Columbus in straight sets on Tuesday night.
The Wolves took the victory 25-9, 25-6 and 25-17.
Audrie Gipple led the WMU with seven kills. Melina Oepping and Bradie Buffington each had six. 2
Keetyn Townsley finished with six digs. Oepping and Tessa Huston each had five.
Townsley also finished with seven aces.
For Columbus, Aracely Garza finished with four kills. Isabelle Lagunas finished with four digs.
WACO 3, Lone Tree 0
WACO picked up its eighth win of the season with the 3-0 victory over Lone Tree.
The Warriors were winners 25-16, 25-9 and 25-11 in the match.
Ellah Kissell and Grace Coble both finished with seven kills for the WACO. Coble also had a team high 24 assists.
Kissell and Katie Leichty tied for the most digs with 10.
Pekin 3, Hillcrest Academy 1
Pekin picked up its first win of the season with the victory over Hillcrest Academy.
The Panthers were winners, 16-25, 25-23, 25-24 and 25-18.
Wapello 3, Highland 1
Highland played well against the Arrows Tuesday night, stealing the second set from the Arrows 25-21, but it wasn’t enough as Wapello took the 3-1 victory.
Every set was decided by five points or less.
The Arrows won the first set 25-21, the third 25-20 and the fourth 25-23.
Sarah Burton led the Huskies with 14 kills in the loss. Adeline Krotz followed with nine.
Madison Beeson finished with 21 digs. Burton had 18.
Danville 3, Van Buren County 0
Van Buren County fought hard, but fell in straight sets.
Danville took the victory 25-16, 25-14 and 25-15.
