Preseason cross-country rankings
Golden Hawk girls No. 1 heading into new year

It should be a busy, busy year of cross-country for the Union area teams, and the hype is plenty there after the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association released its preseason team rankings.
It’s no surprise that the Mid-Prairie girls lead the way, coming in at No. 1 in Class 2A. The Golden Hawks were the 2024 state champions despite being one of the youngest teams at the state meet.
Mid-Prairie, Washington and Pekin are all ranked in the Top-20 in both the boys’ and girls’ polls.
The most Union-filled poll is the Class 1A boys’ rankings. Van Buren County, Columbus, Pekin and WACO are all in the Top-20.
