WASHINGTON -- There's nothing like a seventh-inning hit to give a team a win in its last regular season game to inspire confidence going into the postseason.
That happened for the Washington High School baseball team Monday when Trevor Quigley's two-out walk-off single through the left side of the infield gave Washington a 4-3 victory over Pella.
Each team scored two runs in the first inning. Washington took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but the visitors tied it in the third.
'We had great pitching throughout,” Washington head coach Nathan Miller said. 'Dillan Sanders and Brandon Dickel made terrific plays defensively to limit Pella in a couple of innings. Both were diving catches. Tonight was exciting and a memorable game for our players, especially our seniors.”
It was the final home game for Quigley, Dickel, Sanders, Brady Knutson, Caleb Tanner, Ethan Hunt and Luke Turner.
Washington, which has a 9-7 record, starts the postseason Friday with a game at Solon (13-6).
