Troyer shuts down Wildcats
Emma Troyer pitched a gem on Monday night in the first game of a doubleheader in Durant.
The junior spread out six hits and one walk over seven shutout innings, to give Mid-Prairie the 3-0 victory over the No. 10 ranked team in Class 2A, as the Hawks moved to 20-10 on the season.
The Class 3A, No. 8 ranked Hawks started the game off quickly, picking up two runs in the first inning, before adding an insurance run in the sixth inning, as Amber Kral crossed the plate.
Kral scored two runs in the game, going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, while Lexi Duwa recorded the other run.
Duwa, Chelsea Kral, Taylor Kurtz and Emily Cayton each went 1-for-3 for the Hawks in the game, as they picked up six hits in the contest.
Game 2 of the contest was washed out due to an incoming thunderstorm.
The Hawks snapped the Wildcat?s seven-game winning streak, and Mid-Prairie will take on Cedar Rapids Prairie on Wednesday night.
Huskies continue winning ways
The Class 2A, No. 1 ranked Highland softball team went to Roland over the weekend for a high-level tournament and split their weekend games, going 2-2 over that span.
The victories came against Roland-Story and AGWSR (No. 4 in Class 1A), while they fell to Class 3A, No. 3 ranked East Marshall and Saydel.
The Huskies came back from the weekend and took care of business against Louisa-Muscatine, 10-0.
In the victories, Highland saw Morgan Craig go 2-for-3 with a run scored in the 4-1 victory over AGWSR, while Kelsey Hora, Courtnee Hahn, and Ali Stokes each plated a run as well.
Cheyann Adamson had the lone RBI for the Huskies in the contest, while Megan Hoenig and Katie Springer (each with three innings pitched) combined for a three hitter, with the only run being unearned.
In the 7-3 victory over Roland-Story, Hahn shined, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of doubles.
Katie Chalupa and Brooke Kreiss each had a pair of hits in the contest, while Chalupa notched three RBIs.
In a five inning victory over Louisa-Muscatine, Springer tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out five, as the Huskies scored 10 runs on six hits.
Hora and Adamson each had two hits in the game, each scoring two runs, while Hahn went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
The Huskies will take on Wapello at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday before traveling to Lone Tree on Thursday morning for a makeup game, and then hosting Pekin on Thursday night.
