Ranked teams sweep Golden Hawks

WELLMAN - The Mid-Prairie High School basketball teams lost two completely different River Valley Conference games Monday.
The Golden Hawk boys took Class 2A's No. 9 West Branch to overtime before losing 57-55 while the girls lost to 2A No. 6 West Branch 74-27.
Mid-Prairie used a great start to control the visiting boys team, leading 17-11 after one quarter and 34-22 at halftime. The visitors closed the gap with an 11-8 edge in the third quarter and 18-9 fourth quarter to send the game to overtime tied at 51.
Carter Harmsen and Ethan Trimpe poured in 14 points apiece and Brad Tornow added 11 for the Golden Hawks. Jacob Nonnenmann grabbed six rebounds each and Aidan Rath had five. Harmsen had three steals and a block.
The Golden Hawks were 8-of-18 on foul shots.
The Golden Hawks fall to 3-8 overall, 3-7 RVC with the loss while the girls are 4-8, 4-7.
The girls fell behind early 23-7 after the first quarter. The second quarter was only a 12-11 deficit but Mid-Prairie did not score in the final frame.
Maddie Nonnenmann had 10 points, three rebounds and two assists while Mid-Prairie teammate had six points. Amara Jones had a team-high five rebounds. Colby Rourke added five points.
Both Mid-Prairie teams host Camanche Friday. The Camanche boys are ranked No. 2 in 2A.
