WELLMAN — Two, three, two, three was all it took for Mid-Prairie to defeat Iowa City Regina in the second round of the Class 2A baseball postseason Tuesday.
The Golden Hawks scored two runs then three in the first two innings respectively and repeated that in the third and fourth innings they came to bat, not needing a fifth due to the 10-run mercy rule in the 10-0 victory over the fellow River Valley Conference member Regals.
Aidan Rath had a double and a triple from the batter’s box and took to the mound for three innings, striking out seven Regals. He gave up a hit and walked three. Kayden Reinier tossed two innings for the Hawks, hit a batter, gave up a three hits with no walks and a strikeout.
Keegan Gingerich and Collin Miller had a hit apiece for Mid-Prairie. Reinier connected on a triple and Will Cavanagh cracked a double. Gingerich batted in two runs.
Regina’s season ends at 14-15 while Mid-Prairie’s record is 18-7. Mid-Prairie will host Williamsburg with a record of 18-14 Saturday at 7 p.m. in Wellman.
