WAYLAND — The Hillcrest Academy and Danville-New London soccer teams each made the Southeast Iowa Super Conference soccer semifinals, which took place on Friday night. Both teams were eliminated one day before the championship.
Hillcrest Academy escaped a tough battle from Highland in the quarterfinals, moving on with a 1-0 win, but the Ravens lost a wild one against Notre Dame on Friday night.
Hillcrest erased a 2-0 Notre Dame advantage with two scores in the second half, but fell 4-3 in penalty kicks, losing in sudden death after the score was still tied five shots in.
Seth Ours had the first goal for the Ravens, one that cut the Notre Dame lead in half. Mason Swartzentruber scored the next, putting one through off a cross later in the half.
Danville-New London had no problem on Day 1 of the tournament. The Bears took down Columbus 8-2, thanks to a hat track from Kadu Garcia, and a two-goal, four-assist performance by Collin Pealer.
D-NL played Mediapolis in Friday’s semifinal. The game was back and forth until the final minutes, when what was a 3-2 Bulldog lead quickly turned into a 6-2 Mediapolis victory.
In the loss to Mediapolis, D-NL keeper Aiden Konig had to make 17 saves to keep the game close early on. Pealer had one goal, as did Talan Whaley.
WACO had one game in the tournament, falling 2-1 to Notre Dame in the quarterfinals. The Warriors hosted both Friday’s semifinals and Saturday’s final game.
In the finals, Mediapolis completed its run with a 4-1 win over Notre Dame to bring home the SEISC title.
