Rees claims state archery title
It was a historic day for the Washington Archery team on Saturday.

It was a historic day for the Washington Archery team on Saturday.
The Demon archers went to Des Moines for the state archery tournament, and Allison Rees shined for Lincoln Elementary.
The fifth-grader claimed the first state title in the history of the Washington Archery program, posting a 279 final score with 13 bull?s-eyes to lead the field of 144 elementary girl competitors.
The finish also puts her in the field at the national meet which will be held in May.
Rees? teammate Curtis Stender scored a 272 in his tournament, finishing in fourth place among the elementary boys, and also punching his ticket to nationals.
In the 3D Archery tournament, Rees claimed a second state title, while Stender picked up third among the boys.
As a team, Lincoln took fifth place in the competition, finishing 124 points behind state team champion Mount Vernon.
Trent Heisdorffer posted a 253 for the Demons (26th among elementary boys), while Hayden Janecek recorded a 251 (19th among elementary girls) to help the team.
Blake Evans notched a 246, good for ninth among fourth-grade boys, while Makynna Morgan had a 245 to take sixth among fourth-grade girls.
In the middle school competition, Washington took 10th as a team, led by Sammi Mellinger who posted a season-high score.
Mellinger notched a 280 (15 bull?s-eyes) in the competition to finish in 12th place among middle school girls, as well as eigth among eighth-grade girls.
Lane Frana put together a day of 276 (nine bull?s-eyes) to take 33rd among middle school boys and 11th among sixth-grade boys.
Zoe Kane notched a final score of 265 to finish in 10th among sixth-grade girls.
In the high school competition, Washington finished in ninth place.
The Demons were led by senior Jade Wells, who recorded a 282 (15 bull?s-eyes), taking 16th place in the high school girls competition, and third among senior girls.
Freshman Griffin Wood was hot on her heels, posting a 279 (10 bull?s-eyes) to take 45th in the high school boys competition and 14th among freshman boys.
John Sands shot a 277 to take 11th among junior boys, Shanea Amland?s 275 (13 bull?s-eyes) was a career high and good for 14th among freshman girls.
Junior Grace Shafer and sophomore Kylee Porter each shot 275 and placed 10th in their respective grade levels.
Nationals will be held May 12-14 in Louisville, Kentucky.
