IOWA CITY — Regina Catholic seems to have Van Buren County’s number.
The Warriors season was cut short once again — Regina sent Van Buren home last season — by the Regals on Tuesday night in the Class 2A Region 6 Quarterfinals, 64-16.
Van Buren County struggled to find any spark on the offensive side of the ball in the second round matchup. The Warriors never scored more than eight points in a quarter against the Regals.
On the defensive side of the ball, Van Buren had no solution for the Regina offense.
In the first, the Warriors found themselves down by just 6, 10-4, but the Regals turned it up a notch in the final three quarters.
Van Buren scored eight points in the second quarter, its best of the night, while Regina rained in 19 points.
At the half, the Warriors trailed 29-12.
In the second half, Regina continued to dominate on the offensive end, while the scoring woes continued to torment Van Buren.
The Regals poured in a game-high 23 points in the third, while the Warriors scored only two points.
Trailing 52-14 heading into the final quarter of play, the Warriors deficit was too great.
Van Buren went on to lose the fourth quarter 12-2, sealing its defeat.
Regina Catholic outscored Van Buren County 35-4 in the second half.
The Warriors end their season with an 8-15 record.
