Columbus
The season ended for numerous golf teams across the state of Iowa on Monday during the regional tournaments that were held statewide.
However, one athlete continued her season to next week?s state tournament.
Columbus? Kortney Orr shot an 88 during her regional tournament held at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa. That mark was good for third place in the individual competition, qualifying her for a spot in the Class 2A state tournament for the second year in a row.
The Wildcats were very nearly in the state field as a team, as they shot a combined 401 on the day, finishing four strokes behind second-place state qualifier Ogden.
Grace Chapman shot a 103 for the Wildcats, while Marissa Hafner notched a 104 and Sarah Todd scored a 106 on the day.
Orr?s season will continue at Granger at the Jester Park Golf Course.
Mid-Prairie
The Golden Hawks went to West Liberty on Monday for their second-round regional tournament, but also fell short of a state qualification.
Mid-Prairie shot a team score of 452 to take fourth in the five-team tournament, seeing their season end.
Centerville and West Liberty claimed the team state berths in the tournament.
?This was not the outcome we were hoping for today, but the kids gave it their best shot,? Mid-Prairie head coach Tracy McArtor said. ?Given the fact that on paper, this group was not expected to make it out of the first round of regionals says a lot about how hard they?ve worked and their determination to get where they are.?
Senior Ally Wertz led the Hawks, shooting a 93 on the day, finishing her career one stroke away from qualifying for the state meet as an individual.
?Allyson struggled a little with her first nine holes and then came back strong on her second nine,? McArtor said. ?She gave it all she had today and to see her come so close again was really tough. She?s had an amazing high school run, with many outstanding achievements that she can look back on and be very proud of.?
Paige Slabaugh scored a 111 for the Hawks, while Lindsey Palmer scored a 123 while Kenzie Bontrager notched a 125. Olivia Nisly notched a 130 and Abby Statler scored a 134.
