Road to state: IGHSAU softball postseason brackets released

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has released its postseason pairings for all five classes of softball.

In Class 4A, 13th-ranked Fairfield (16-11 record) is in a bracket with seventh-ranked Carlisle, (20-9) which lost in the championship game last season. Fairfield lost in its first game at state. On Saturday, July 10, the Trojans will play the winner of the Thursday, July 8, game between Mt. Pleasant (1-25) and Keokuk (7-15).

Washington (14-14) is in a different region and has an away game against Oskaloosa (15-13) Thursday, July 8. The winner plays at No. 4 Norwalk (20-8), Saturday, July 10. The other side of the bracket has Benton (17-12) playing the winner of Burlington (14-11) and Fort Madison (6-14).

Regional finals in the class are scheduled for July 13.

The Class 3A, 2A and 1A postseasons start Tuesday with finals Monday July 12.
