WASHINGTON — Case Field saw boys and girls in a track and field competition Thursday and Washington boys coach Steve Roth couldn’t stop smiling over the fact that a year ago there were no spring sports and this was Case Field’s second time in a week that boys had competed.
“It was just a great night all around because, first, the volunteers and everything they do. Their help is so important,” Roth said. “Second, I’m a 4x4 relay guy and we ran (3 minutes, 34 seconds) with (Ethan Patterson, Elijah Morris, Cameron Vongpanya and Lance Sobaski.) I love that race.”
Patterson, a sophomore, had never taken or received a baton handoff, having run open events in middle school.
“The underclassmen, and that’s everybody but seniors really because of last year, are stepping up,” Roth said, pointing out the 4x200 win with seniors Wyatt Stout and Reece Mayer, junior Sam Ackerman and sophomore Aidan Ulin. 1:37.72.
