WASHINGTON — The Washington girls soccer team gave Mt. Pleasant a taste of its own medicine on Monday night. Just under three weeks after falling to the Panthers in overtime at Mt. Pleasant, the Demons toppled the Panthers 4-3 in overtime to hand Mt. Pleasant its first loss of the season.
Washington’s Greta Rothe had the winning goal, scoring in overtime to cap off the Demons’ come-from-behind victory.
The Panthers held a 2-0 lead at halftime, but Washington put in all three of its scores in the second half. The game was tied at 2-2 and then 3-3 when Trina Griffin scored her second goal of the game. Yulisma Torres had one goal for the Demons.
“We made some tactical changes in the second half to create more of a threat on our wings, freeing up space in the middle for Trina and Greta,” said Washington head coach Steven Caulk.
Mt. Pleasant had one goal each from Abby West, Andrea Lopreato and Elly Manning.
Mt. Pleasant wrapped up the Southeast Conference race on Thursday, and they end the SEC slate with a 7-1 record. Washington finished third, at 4-4. The Panthers are 8-1 overall, and the Demons are 6-4.
