MT. PLEASANT - All three of the Union area's big schools picked up some sort of a win on Tuesday. Mt. Pleasant's Abby Ryon dominated the girls' race, helping the Panthers win the team race in the process. Washington's Evan Horak was the top big school boy, and the Fairfield boys split the big school team title with Ft. Madison.
The big school girls race saw all seven Panther runners finish in the top 10. Ryon and Abby Blint went one-two. Ft. Madison's Katelyn Dennis took third, and the next five Panthers followed.
'It's a beautiful day, not too hot,” said Blint after a strong finish. 'The wind was motivation on one side, but then on the other end, you really had to work against it.”
The first 10 big school runners were from either Mt. Pleasant or Ft. Madison. Washington's Grace Voss crossed in 11th place to break up the streak. Hannah Rees finished 14th for the Demons, and Abby Voss was 19th to give Washington three in the top 20.
Fairfield's top girl was Makenzie Kraemer, who took 13th overall. Amiritha Kumar took 16th, and Hailey Pohren-Gevock was 18th to put three Trojans in the top 20 as well.
Horak beat out the rest of the Southeast Conference runners by over 11 secodns in the boys race. He was one of three Demons in the top 15, with Lance Sobaski and Elijah Morris finishing sixth and 12th respectively.
Four different schools represented the top four spots in the big school boys race. Keokuk's Tim Burns took second, Ft. Madison's Will Gager was third, and Fairfield's Alex Forest placed fourth.
'I felt pretty good, a lot better than some meets.” said Forrest. 'Today was a lot better than some of them.”
Forrest was one of four Trojans to finish in the top 10, aiding them to a share of the team crown. Bryan Wilkins finished seventh. Gavin Van Veen was eighth, and Kaidyn Mickels finished ninth.
'It's pretty good when we have our one, two, three and four have a 30 second split,” said Wilkins. 'Any team would be lucky to have that. Our goal at the beginning of the meet was attack, attack, attack, and that's what we did. Overall it was a pretty good team effort.”
Mt. Pleasant's top boy was Logan Lee, who crossed in 13th place. Luke Ryon took 16th, and Logan White was 20th, to give the Panther boys three in the top 20.
Danville-New London had another great outing in both the boys and girls race. The D-NL boys won the meet by 61 points, and the girls won by 31.
D-NL'S Addison Parrott won the small school girls race by almost two minutes. She was the second-overall girl runner, finishing only behind Ryon.
Wilton's Zach Hein took the top spot in the boys race. D-NL's Ty Carr was the top area runner, finishing third. Winfield-Mt. Union's Brody Barton took fourth.
