Saturday baseball roundup: Fairfield, Van Buren County compete

We’re now in the early stages of the baseball season and teams from around the Union area are now in full swing. A plethora of games were played throughout the week, but a few were in action this past weekend as well.
Grinnell 11, Fairfield 0
The game against Grinnell on Saturday was a tough one for Fairfield.
Fairfield hung in for two scoreless inning, but between the third and fourth innings Grinnell put nine runs on the board, adding two more in the sixth to down the Trojans.
The Trojans had just one hit in the game.
Brad Woodburn went 1-2 in the contest.
Tate Allen, Evan Haines, Tallon Bates, Dylan Hunter and Khai Klehm were all on the mound for the Trojans.
Van Buren County 11, Fairfield 6
Fairfield led 2-1 after one inning against Van Buren, but the Warriors turned in on over the course of the next five innings. Van Buren County scored a total of 10 runs up until the final out of the game.
Fairfield scored a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh inning, but the deficit was too great.
Freshman Trojan Cason Miller had a nice showing, going 3-3 in the game. Brad Woodburn went 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Nate Woodburn also went 2-4 with two RBIs. Tate Allen was 1-3 in the box with an RBI. Connor Lyons went 1-4 and Tallon Bates 1-3.
Pitching for the Trojans was Miller, Lyons, Nate Woodburn and Bates.
Davis County 15, Van Buren County 5
The Warriors struggled late against the Mustangs on Saturday.
Neither team scored in the first two innings, but it was Davis County scoring first with two runs in the third.
Van Buren got on the board in the fourth with two runs of its own, but Davis County countered with three to take a 5-2 advantage.
In the fifth, the Warriors outscored the Mustangs 3-2 to make it a two run game 7-5, but Davis County scored eight runs in the final two innings to solidify the win.
