Saturday’s wrestling roundup: Boone wins for Washington
Fairfield gets 2 titles at Knoxville, Mt. Pleasant swept in Grinnell

It was a busy weekend for the area’s wrestling teams. All three big schools were in action, as were a handful of small schools. The only home tournament this weekend was at Mid-Prairie
Trojans get 2 champions at Knoxville
Fairfield won two brackets at the Knoxville Invitational.
Zach Westercamp had three pins on the day en route to a title at 126 pounds. Westercamp pinned Southeast Polk’s Cael Corbin in 1:02 to win the bracket.
Theodore Metcalf won the 195-pound tournament, going 3-0. He beat Southeast Polk’s Thaden Abbas 11-6 in the championship.
Mt. Pleasant swept at Grinnell Duals
The Panther wrestlers had a tough time with a stacked field at the Grinnell Duals. The Panthers went 0-5.
Mt. Pleasant fell 48-30 against Grinnell, 76-6 to Bondurant-Farrar, 54-24 against East Marshall, 74-6 against Cedar Rapids Prairie and 74-4 against Webster City.
Boone leads way for Demons
Washington’s Aaron Boone won the 113-pound bracket at the Mount Vernon Invitational. Boone dominated, collecting four pins and winning the championship over Xavier’s Ryan Hofer via an 18-3 technical fall.
Logan Frazer took third at 182 pounds, pinning Sigourney-Keota’s Aidan Schuster in the third place match.
Columbus/WMU goes 1-4
Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union defeated hosting Colfax-Mingo 42-36 in the Colfax-Mingo duals.
The Wildcats lost four other duals. They dropped one to Hudson, 54-27, fell to Des Moines North-Hoover 43-28, fell 57-18 to Notre Dame and dropped a 54-18 match with Treynor.
New London takes 2nd at North Cedar
New London scored 138 points to finish second out of 14 teams at the North Cedar Invitational. Highland was 10th, with 43 points.
The Tigers had a ridiculous five bracket winners out of the seven wrestlers competing.
Among the New London champions were Mavy Pope, at 113 pounds, Marcel Lopez, at 132 pounds, Dominic Lopez, at 160 pounds, Josh Glendening, at 182 pounds, and Trent Wilkerson, at 195 pounds.
Mid-Priaire 5th at Colton Allen Memorial
Mid-Prairie scored 91 points at their home meet, the Colton Allen Memorial tournament. The Golden Hawks finished fifth out of six teams.
Mid-Prairie had two tournament champions on the day. Cael Garvey won the 195-pound bracket, and Terry Bordenave won the 220-pound bracket.
Garvey had four pins, the final being a victory in 1:04 over Iowa Valley’s Taite Peach. Bordenave had three pins and defeated Iowa Valley’s Garrett Hoyt in the final with a fall at 3:01.
