SCC All-Conference baseball selections released

The Cardinal baseball team experienced some new scenery this season with a move out of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and over into the South Central Conference.

It was an up and down year for the Comets that saw them finish with a 7-20 overall record. Despite winning just seven games in 2023, the Comets played in a lot of tight games that very well could have moved their win total into double digits.

However, with the season now closed, the South Central Conference has release its 2023 All-Conference SCC teams.

For the Comets on this year’s this, there’s just one selection on either first or second team.

Three players were given honorable mention distinctions.

Representing Cardinal on second-team is sophomore outfielder Tatem Telfer.

Telfer finished the season with an average of .297. He ended with a team-high in runs at 22, along with 22 hits and 16 RBIs. He notched 12 singles, seven doubles, two triples and one home run through 27 games.

Telfer also did a little pitching throughout the season. On the hill, he finished with an ERA of 2.72. With a 1-1 record in five games played, he gave up nine runs (seven earned) on 15 hits and 30 strikeouts.

In 309 opponent at-bats, the opposition hit with an average of .176.

On the honorable mention list, the Comets earned a trio of picks.

Senior Josh Courtney, junior Gavin Ware and freshman Cayden Courtney were all given the honorable mention distinction.
