The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released football schedules for the 2021 and 2022 regular seasons.
Mt. Pleasant will open the season at Fairfield, then home against Washington, at Keokuk and home against West Burlington/Notre Dame before Class 4A District 3 play starts.
Washington starts at Burlington. Its third game is at Clear Creek-Amana- and the last non-district game is Fort Madison at Case Field. Fellow 3A District 5 Fairfield has Ottumwa for its second game then is at Fort Madison. Oskaloosa in Fairfield is the last non-district game.
Mt. Pleasant’s district includes Fort Madison, Burlington, Clinton, Iowa City Liberty and North Scott.
Fairfield and Washington have Keokuk, Grinnell, West Burlington-Notre Dame and Solon.
Other notable non-district games have Mid-Prairie and Sigourney-Keota playing in Week 2. Cardinal and Pekin play in Week 1. Van Buren County plays host to Louisa-Muscatine in Week 3.
The current schedules are in place for two years and include a new seventh classification that has moved Mt. Pleasant out of 3A and into 4A.
Regular season football schedules are determined by the state association. Regular season schedules for all other sports are determined by member schools and their conferences.
Districts and groups are assigned by the associations, then schools select preferred non-district opponents through a priority list. The state association attempts to align schedules with as many priority list selections as possible. Games will be in the same order in 2022 but the location will be reversed.
