DANVILLE - Nobody has blocked more shots in Iowa girls' basketball history than Van Buren County's Taryn Scheuermann. Scheuermann broke the IGHSAU career blocks record on Friday night in Danville as the fourth-ranked Warriors smashed the Bears 56-13.
The Van Buren defense gave up just two points in the first half, leading 28-2 at halftime. Scheuermann's record-breaking block came on a Danville layup attempt where she was able to swat the ball out of bounds.
Scheuermann surpassed 515 career blocks, a record set by Kiah Stokes, who would go on to play for the UCONN Huskies and then go into the WNBA.
Scheuermann finished the night with 16 points and six blocks to lead the Warriors to victory. Chloe Davidson had 15 points. Isabel Manning scored 13. Ella Jirak, Madison Bartholomew and Sydney Zollars each scored three points.
The Warrior boys weren't able to make it a South Division sweep. Danville outscored Van Buren 72-40 after jumping out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter.
The Van Buren girls are now 6-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The boys are 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
