WEST BURLINGTON - The seventh-ranked (2A) Van Buren County girls had one of their biggest tests of the yea ron Friday night when they went into West Burlington to take on a the No. 11 (3A) Falcons. 'I couldn't have done it without my teammates, that's for sure. All the good passes, good looks, too,” Scheuermann said. 'It was a little rough there. But we finally decided to bear down and we got to it.”
Van Buren came into the game shorthanded with second-leading scorer Isabel Manning absent with the flu, and her loss hurt in the first half. Van Buren put up 10 points in overtime, vastly improving from a one-point overtime period in their only other overtime game, a 51-47 loss against North Linn.
Scheuermann absolutely went off in the win. She went 15-of-18 from the field and 2-of-3 from 3-point land to score 32 points. She also had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Madison Bartholomew wasn't far off from her own triple-double. She ended the night with 18 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Sydney Zollars stepped up with six points on two 3-pointers, and Salena Sayre had four points and four blocked shots.
The Warrior boys led 15-12 after the first quarter but the Falcons stormed back to lead 29-19 at the break. Van Buren cut the lead down to two possessions in the second half but they could never get the lead back.
Jonah Heckenberg finished the night with 14 points to lead the Van Buren boys. Jackson Manning had 13 points. Lane Davis scored 10. Tony Davidson had eight, and Wyatt Mertens scored five.
