WATERLOO — State golf meets from around the area wrapped up last week, and the area’s best performer was Hillcrest Academy standout Liam Schrock.
Schrock competed at the top of the Class 1A field in Waterloo for two-straight days, eventually landing in the Top-2, finishing second place by just one struck with a two over par 146.
Schrock shot a 75 on Day 1, four back of leader Jackson Keizer, a junior from Boyden-Hull. Schrock caught up with Keizer, but couldn’t finish above Keith Thompson of Hamburg, who was one shot ahead of Schrock after Day 1, and finished at 145 to win the title by one stroke.
Schrock’s big day helped the Ravens to a fourth-place overall finish. Hillcrest shot a 92 as a team, five strokes ahead of fifth-place Sigourney (97) but behind state champion Boyden-Hull (42), South Winneshiek (62) and Woodbine (80).
Hillcrest put two golfers in the Top-10. Junior Rowan Miller finished the tournament in eighth, shooting a nine-over par 153.
Sophomores Ryland Good and Lawson Shrock shot a 183 and a 186 respectively for the Ravens. Matthew Chalupa finished the tournament at 72, and Ethan Yoder finished at 79. Both Chalupa and Yoder are from the sophomore class as well.
Meanwhile, in Cedar Falls, Washington’s Drew Conrad was representing well for the Southeast Conference. Conrad, who was competing individually, shot a 152, eight over par.
The Demon junior shot a 74 on Day 1 and a 78 on Day 2 to finish 24th overall. The state champion was Nevada’s Parker Rodgers, who shot a 137, for seven under.
Conrad made five birdies in the tournament, four of which came on Day 1.
