Accolades for the Hillcrest Academy and Van Buren County baseball teams have started to come in spades after a successful season on the diamond for both squads.
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference released its All-Conference teams for the summer of 2023 this week, and both the Ravens and Warriors swept top honors in their respective divisions.
In the SEISC North, Hillcrest Academy’s Luke Schrock won Player of the Year honors after a stellar year at the plate and in the circle.
Schrock hit .468 at the plate this year, hitting three home runs and knocking in 28 RBIs to add to his totals. On the mound, he finished the year 5-0 with a 1.15 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
Hillcrest Academy went 21-5 on the season and a perfect 15-0 in SEISC South play. That helped head coach Danny Hershberger earn Coach of the Year honors.
Van Buren County’s Jackson Manning earned Player of the Year honors in the South. Heading into the Class 2A state tournament, Manning was hitting .517 four triples, two home runs and an astounding 60 RBIs.
Manning has been fantastic on the mound for the Warriors as well. The VBC senior is 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA, 26 strikeouts and three saves.
The Warriors are in Carroll for the 2023 Class 2A state tournament in a game that has not finished as of presstime. Leading Van Buren County is SEISC South Coach of the Year Chad Scott, who brings his team into the state tourney with a 26-3 record.
