Back in August, former New London baseball standout and now Central Arizona Community College shortstop Kooper Schulte announced on his personal Twitter that he would be heading to the University of Iowa next season to play baseball for the Hawkeyes.
Last week on Nov. 8, Iowa baseball announced on Twitter that Schulte had officially signed with the program.
After his time in Arizona is complete the 2021-22 Iowa high school state baseball champion will head to Iowa City.
In his first season at Central Arizona, Schulte played in 33 games, while batting .242 with 22 runs, 13 RBIs, one home run and eight stolen bases.
Schulte returned to Southeast Iowa this summer and played a 19 game stint with the Burlington Bees, before a broken hand kept him off the field.
While he was on the field for the Bees, he was pretty efficient, batting .373 with 10 RBIs.
For Schulte, playing for Iowa has always been the dream and it’s coming true.
“Playing for Iowa as always been my goal,” Schulte said back in August. “I got the opportunity to go there and just chose to do it. Being away from home for two years is tough too. Iowa is really successful right now and it’s a program going in the right direction.”
Schulte will join his father as the second Schulte to play for the black and gold.
His father Justin was a pitcher at the University of Iowa in 1994 and 1995.
